Our History

Jamia Masjid Al-Madina was established in Middlesbrough in 1976, founded by the pioneering Muslim families who settled in Teesside in the 1960s and 70s. From its origins as a community gathering place, it has grown to become the spiritual and social heart of Middlesbrough's Muslim community.

Over five decades, the masjid has served generations of worshippers — offering not just a place of prayer, but education, welfare, guidance, and community cohesion for thousands of families across Teesside.

Registered as Charity No. 1133547 with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the masjid is governed by a volunteer board of trustees and is funded entirely by community donations and Gift Aid.
